Edward Tran

DIRECTOR / ARCHITECT

Hailing originally from Perth, Western Australia, Eddie possesses a culturally rich background with Chinese/Vietnamese heritage, and is fluent in both Cantonese and English.

Eddie's professional journey commenced during his student years when he garnered the attention of Cox Howlett+Bailey Woodland and became a part of their esteemed firm. Over a distinguished seven-year tenure at Cox Perth, Edward played a pivotal role as an integral member of the design team. His tenure underscored his exceptional proficiency in generating comprehensive architectural documentation and design presentations, reflecting his deep understanding of intricate 3D design solutions.

In July 2009, Eddie embarked on a profound life and career transition, embracing a new chapter at Engawa Architects, a boutique architectural practice nestled in the picturesque surroundings of Broome, regional Western Australia. This move to Broome bore a significant personal connection, particularly with the Kimberley region, where he formed strong bonds within the local community, considering the Northwest as his true home.

Within the dynamic realm of Engawa Architects, Edward excelled in overseeing and completing a diverse array of projects, wearing the dual hats of Project and Design Architect. His responsibilities encompassed delivering comprehensive project services and fostering close collaborations with a spectrum of stakeholders, including communities, schools, and clients such as the Catholic Education Office. His adept project management ensured projects were executed within budget constraints and adhered to stringent timelines.

In May 2014, Eddie and Nathan embarked on a new entrepreneurial venture by founding Laird Tran Studio, a dynamic architecture practice rooted in Broome. Throughout his tenure at Laird Tran Studio, he has effectively steered a wide range of projects, spanning various typologies, including single residential, multi-residential, commercial, tourism, community, extensions, refurbishments, education, office fit-outs, and healthcare projects. Standout achievements in this portfolio include the Broome Golf Club Redevelopment and the Lions Outback Vision Kimberley Eye Hub.

Eddie's passion extends beyond architecture and design; it also encompasses the world of photography. His philosophy in architecture, design, and photography revolves around the core principles of composition, geometry, light, color, textures, and form. Within the realm of architecture, he places particular emphasis on crafting built environments that harmonize seamlessly with the unique site characteristics and the challenging climatic conditions of Northwest Australia.

Eddie's extensive professional architectural experience stands as a testament to his ability to deftly address design challenges and navigate the practical and regulatory aspects of project delivery. This ensures projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in perfect alignment with the project brief.
