Nathan Laird

DIRECTOR / ARCHITECT

Nathan started his life in Bidyadanga and later began schooling in Broome. Having grown up with the story of Broome town, Nathan continues to have a deep connection with the culture, nature and people of Broome and the Kimberley.

After graduating from UWA in 2004, Nathan moved to Brisbane and worked with Yuri Stevens and Nicole Weston Architects until late 2008. Nathan sat for his architecture registration under their mentorship and undertook a diverse role within the small firm.

In January of 2009 Nathan returned to his hometown to commence work with Geoff Barker and Sue Thomas at PM+D Architects. Nathan managed the Contract Administration portion of a number of PM+D's education projects until the closure of PM+D's Broome office in mid-2009. Nathan continued to work with Sue Thomas under her practice Engawa Architects. As Engawa grew Nathan contacted Edward regarding the availability of a project architect position in the firm.

Having worked along-side Edward Tran throughout university and at Engawa Architects, Nathan commenced a partnership architecture practice with Edward through Laird Tran Studio in 2014. This studio is based in Broome.

Nathan is a great communicator and prides himself on delivering professional and creative solutions to complex project and construction issues.

Besides architecture, Nathan's other passions include his family and the ocean.

Nathan's philosophy towards Architecture is that of integrity, creativity, and refinement. Architectural ideas need to be tested so that Architecture may intercept the negative influences of our surroundings and promote the positive influences. Architecture is the process of designing human habitats and it should serve us to promote prosperity, health and well-being within individuals and our community.
